Whitecaps and Griffins Partner up for Saturday’s Game
August 20, 2018
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - This Saturday, the West Michigan Whitecaps will host “Salute to the Grand Rapids Griffins Night” at Fifth Third Ballpark!
The night will be themed around the AHL Detroit Red Wings affiliate, including special Griffins inspired jerseys the Whitecaps will wear for the game. Many of these jerseys will be auctioned off online during the game with the proceeds benefitting the Jake Engel family. Jake Engel worked for both the Whitecaps and Griffins in his career before suddenly passing away earlier this year on February 6.
“This is going to be a great night!” said Whitecaps Vice-President and General Manager Jim Jarecki. “Our two organizations have an outstanding relationship and coming together for a night is sure to be memorable. This is a great way to bring the West Michigan community together and a great way to help the Engel family.”
The game, which is presented by Centennial Securities, will feature several other Griffins themed events including:
Teddy Bear Toss after the Whitecaps score their first run. Fans are asked to bring teddy bears to the game and all bears tossed on the field will be donated to Billy Bear.
Appearances by Griffins announcers Bob Kaser, Josh Pettinger and Eric Zane
Griffins’ mascots Griff and Finn will be entertaining the crowd
Instead of a ceremonial first pitch, Pinckney, Michigan native Dominik Shine will do a ceremonial first “wrist shot.” Shine is entering his second year with the Griffins.
During the game several grills will be given away to lucky fans, courtesy of Gerrit’s Appliance and following the game will be one of the last Family Fare Fireworks shows of the year.
There are only 10 home games remaining in the Whitecaps season. The ‘Caps start a seven-game homestand Tuesday when the Dayton Dragons come to town. For tickets and information on these games and the remainder of the Whitecaps season please visit www.WhiteapsBaseball.com.
