TURNER ELSON ASSIGNED TO GRIFFINS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday assigned forward Turner Elson to the Grand Rapids Griffins. 

Elson, 25, was signed as a free agent by Detroit in July. Entering his fifth year as a professional, the 6-foot, 195-pound winger has appeared in 175 career AHL contests between Abbotsford, Adirondack, Stockton and San Antonio, totaling 66 points (34-32—66) and 144 penalty minutes. 

Grand Rapids’ training camp is being held at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit this week before the team makes its practice debut at Van Andel Arena next Monday, Oct. 2.

The Griffins will raise their 2017 Calder Cup championship banner and begin the defense of their title on Friday, Oct. 6 at Van Andel Arena against Manitoba when the puck drops on the 2017-18 season with Opening Night presented by Huntington Bank.
