“[A] unique style and sound that incorporates roots in funk, rock, jazz, soul, Afro-beat, jam, and popular culture…[compelling] even the most stubborn of wallflowers to head to the dance floor and bust a move” - Live For Live Music
For Immediate Release:
Today, MLIMA are pleased to release their debut self-titled effort, out now. The 7-track EP was written, recorded, and produced solely by the band. As guitarist Jeph Kennedy shared in a recent interview with Westword, "there’s definitely more freedom in this band because we take more chances than other bands." For these six musicians who often work with numerous other projects, MLIMA is a place where they can come together and let the creative juices flow.
Alongside Kennedy, the group is comprised of vocalist Jessica Jones, saxophonist and vocalist Zach Simms, bassist Ryan Thrush, percussionist Jack Breitenbach, and drummer Lance Croucher, with Ben Rafferty lending occasional notes on keys.
Hailing from Denver, CO, MLIMA’s unique style of “Mountain Groove” — a blend of funk, soul, and rock (Westword) — has taken the local music scene by storm. MLIMA has headlined venues like Denver’s Bluebird Theatre and Boulder’s Fiske Planetarium, and has graced the mainstage at last year’s Arise Music Festival. The group has had the pleasure of opening for renowned acts such as Shpongle and The Disco Biscuits at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater, as well as Praang (feat. members of String Cheese Incident), Nigel Hall (Lettuce), and more.
Quite literally, “MLIMA” means “mountain” in Swahili, and their inspiration in the world around them is as tall as the Rocky Mountains. Review copies of MLIMA are available upon request.
MLIMA is out now!
