On Sunday January 14, 2018, Mercedes-Benz, hosted a media only event, in which close to 300 media and other outlets attended to witness the unveiling of its G-Class SUV. People were escorted from Cobo Hall and driven in shuttle buses to the Michigan Theatre. Well known celebrity Arnold Schwarzenegger downed a shot of schnapps on stage with Mercedes-Benz boss Dieter Zetsche to celebrate the new £140,000 G-Class off-roader. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a long-term lover of the G-Class since it was first released in 1979 – keeping them in his personal fleet for 25 years.
CEO Dieter Zetsche, stated that the “[The G-Wagon] is instantly recognizable – yet better in every dimension. “This is the safest, the most efficient, most comfortable, but – first and foremost – the most off-road capable G-Wagon of all time.” Drivers get five Dynamic Select modes which – at the touch of a button – change the characteristics of the engine, transmission, suspension, and steering into Comfort, Sport, Eco and Individual. The fifth “G-mode” automatically kicks in when one of the three locking differentials is activated for maximum off-road performance.
G-class has been coveted by everyone from the Pope to the Shah of Iran to
Schwarzenegger and has seen sales increase in the U.S. for the last four years. In
2017 Mercedes sold 2.3 units. The new G-Class SUV hits the shelves in late 2018.
Looking forward to more noteworthy buzz from the North American International
