(Pontiac, September 12, 2017) – Three shows will bring the elegance and precision of dance and the artistry of martial arts and acrobats to the stage this fall. Tango Buenos Aires – The Spirit of Argentina” (Wednesday, October 11), Festival of South African Dance (Saturday, October 28) and The Martial Artists and Acrobats of the Tianjin, People’s Republic of China (Wednesday, November 1) have been announced as the inaugural Flagstar Family Series. Individual tickets and Series Packages are now on sale. 

The coast-to-coast tour of Tango Buenos Aires – “The Spirit of Argentina” dances in to the Flagstar Strand for one performance only on Wednesday, October 11 (7:30 p.m.). Performing a journey through dance and music, Tango Buenos Aires – The Spirit of Argentina, has become one of Argentina’s great cultural exports, known throughout the Americas, Europe and the Far East as the most authentic and uncompromising representative of the Tango. Tango Buenos Aires was created for the "Jazmines" festival at the famous Buenos Aires cabaret "Michelangelo" by renowned composer and tango director Osvaldo Requena. The company met with tremendous success and was immediately added to the season of the General . . . San Martin Municipal Theatre. “The Spirit of Argentina” kicked off a tour of the United States and Canada beginning in September 2017. The tour will culminate in December 2017.

 

From the author and director of internationally acclaimed theater production “Spirit and Bones,” Thapelo Motloung, comes Festival of South African Dancefeaturing the Gumboots and Pantsula Dance Companies. The extraordinary dance production which brings a unique South African story of rural African men who come by train from all walks of life in search of greener pastures in the city of gold, Johannesburg. The production presents two distinct South African dance traditions born from the perseverance of the human spirit. The two deeply rhythmic ensembles, Real Actions Pantsula, and Stimela “The Gumboot” Musical uplift, unite and tell a story as they entertain and follow in their historical tradition of spreading awareness of socioeconomic and political challenges. These communicative dances have become important parts of restoring, revitalizing and preserving South African Culture. The Festival of South African Dance comes to the Flagstar Strand on Saturday, October 28 (8 p.m.).

 

The Martial Artists and Acrobats of Tianjin of the People’s Republic of China comes to the Flagstar Strand Theatre on Wednesday, November 1 (7:30 p.m.). Established in 1957 as a combination of the former China Circus & Acrobats that was founded in 1948, it is one of the best acrobatic troupes in China, with over one hundred acrobatic, magical and martial arts performers. With novelty and superior techniques, the acrobatic troupe is favored by audiences all over the world. The Troupe has more than 30 representative acts, many of which have won prizes in national and international festivals and competitions.

 

Individual Tickets ($55, $45, $35, $25) are now on sale atticketmaster.com or at the Flagstar Strand Box Office. Box office hours are Monday-Friday noon-6 p.m. Series subscription packages, and discounts for groups of 10 or more are available by calling the box office at 248-309-6442. The Flagstar Strand will donate a portion of every ticket sold to Tango Buenos Aires, Festival of South African Dance and The Martial Artists and Acrobats of the Tianjin, People’s Republic of China to the American Red Cross and MusiCares Hurricane Relief initiatives. The Flagstar Strand Theatre – a stunning rehabilitation of the original 1921 venue – reopened in January 2017 and is fast becoming the fixture in Downtown Pontiac that it once was.  The theater provides a unique and extraordinary entertainment experience from every seat with intimate sight lines, state-of-the-art acoustics, and convenience.  The Flagstar Strand is located at 12 N.
