July 22, 2019
NEW ORLEANS – A total of 9 sports facilities were recognized for their leadership in addressing safety and security issues as part of the 2019 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition July 9-11, in New Orleans, LA. This year’s theme was Learning from the past – Preparing for the future. More than 450 security professionals and 60 vendor exhibits were expected for the national conference.
The presentation of the 2019 Facility of Merit Awards is sponsored by K2 Solutions, provider of solutions to defeat threats to safety and security. The presentation took place on the second day of the tenth annual conference, which is hosted by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi.
“The Facility of Merit Award is to allow professional leagues, NCAA member institutions and marathon and endurance organizations to honor outstanding facilities that have gone above and beyond for their sports safety and security,” said NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani. “These contributions involve enhancing safety and security at their venue beyond what is normally required, and setting an example for other facilities to follow.”
Marciani noted that each league or organization selects the criteria and makes the determination as to which facility will be recognized. Those facilities recognized included the following:
· St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend (Marathon/Road Race Advisory Committee) – Memphis, Tennessee
· Delmar – Tusa Sports Complex, Houston ISD (High School/After School Events) – Houston, Texas
· Albertsons Stadium, Boise State University (NCAA) – Boise, Idaho
· Canvas Stadium, Colorado State University (NCAA) – Fort Collins, Colorado
· Scott Stadium, University of Virginia (NCAA) – Charlottesville, Virginia
· Citizens Bank Park (MLB) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
· Hard Rock Stadium (NFL) – Miami, Florida
· Little Caesars Arena (NHL) – Detroit, Michigan
