The Rocket Mortgage Classic made history as the first PGA TOUR event ever held in the city of Detroit. Scheduled for June 25-30 at the historic Detroit Golf Club, the tournament featured 156 of the world’s top players competing for a $7.3 million purse over four days and 72 holes. The tournament replaced the Quicken Loans National on the PGA Tour schedule. The event is part of the Open Qualifying Series, giving up to two non-exempt players entry into The Open Championship. The Rocket Mortgage Classic has a four-year contract to be played at Detroit Golf Club through 2022.
As Premier Partners, Cadillac and JP Morgan Chase have made multi-year commitments that include significant branding on-course, along with opportunities to entertain key clients, prospects and employees. These partners enjoy exclusive access to the iconic clubhouse at Detroit Golf Club, along with occupying prime real estate in dedicated private hospitality venues overlooking the 18th hole. Amerisure, CDW, Delta Dental, DTE Energy, LendingTree, Michelob Ultra and Trion Solutions are among the companies that have agreed to become Official Partners of the Rocket Mortgage Classic “The support of the local business community is a huge factor in the success of any PGA TOUR event. The overwhelming demand amongst corporations – both big and small – is indicative of Detroit’s growing reputation as a thriving and growing business hub,” said Jason Langwell, Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. “We are honored to join forces with Cadillac and JPMorgan Chase as Premier Partners. This is an incredible opportunity to work in partnership with these two iconic brands alongside our title sponsor, Rocket Mortgage, to produce a world-class event.”
Area 313 will be the central gathering place for watching great golf and enjoying the signature summertime event in Detroit.” To add even further to the excitement, Area 313 will also feature a charitable component that will give each of the 156 PGA TOUR golfers playing in the Rocket Mortgage Classic a chance to win big for local nonprofits. The first player to score a 3 on Hole 14 (an eagle), a hole-in-one on Hole 15, and a 3 on Hole 16 (a birdie) – scoring a 3-1-3 along that stretch – cumulatively over the four days of tournament play will win $313,000 to be donated to several youth-based local non-profit partners and one charitable group of the golfer’s choice.
World’s #1 Golfer Dustin Johnson, Along with Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson, to Headline Star-Studded Field at Detroit’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. Rising stars Cameron Champ and Aaron Wise played in Detroit. Fowler, a Rocket Mortgage brand ambassador and five-time PGA TOUR champion, has represented the United States in three consecutive Ryder Cups, two Presidents Cups and the 2016 Summer Olympics. But it was early Sunday evening for Nate Lashley – the stunning winner of the Rocket Mortgage Classic and it could not have been more perfect. Not because he had the 18th green to himself after romping to a six-stroke win over Doc Redman, but because he was embraced by his sister, Brooke, perhaps the only person is this world of ours who could even fathom the emotions that have consumed the two of them since that horrific day in May of 2004 when a plane crash claimed the lives of their parents, Rod and Char, and Nathan’s then girlfriend, Leslie Hofmeister. “The whole story still gives me a sense of sadness. But if anybody deserves something like this to happen to him, it’s Nate.” And Brooke, of course. The proud and incredibly strong sister stood greenside with Ashlie Reed, Lashley’s girlfriend, and a dozen or so friends from Phoenix and Nebraska. Everyone got a hug in with the winner, but Brooke’s was long and warm and filled with tears.
“It’s a great lesson, that you can go through really, really tough times and still come out on top,” she said.
