BOBBY BUTLER NAMED TO TEAM USA
Butler will Go for Gold Beginning February 14
Milwaukee, WI—Milwaukee Admirals forward Bobby Butler will attempt to become the fourth Admirals player to win gold when he competes for Team USA in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Butler is one of 25 players named to Team USA, which will begin preliminary round play on Wednesday, February 14 against Slovenia.
The Marlborough, MA native has tallied 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points in 32 games with the Admirals thus far this season. He leads the team in goals, points, power-play goals (4), and game-winning goals (3). Over his past 11 games Butler has tallied five goals and five assists.
Butler is a three-time American Hockey League All-Star, who has posted 189 points on 99 goals and 90 assists in 251 career AHL contests with the Admirals, Binghamton Senators, Albany Devils, and San Antonio Rampage. As a rookie in 2010-11 he was selected to the AHL All-Star contest in the regular season and then led league rookies in post season scoring with 17 points to help the Senators to the Calder Cup Championship.
A Hobey Baker Finalist and Hockey East Player of the Year with New Hampshire in 2010, Butler has a combined 130 games of NHL Experience under his belt with Ottawa, New Jersey, Nashville, and Florida. In those games he totaled 20 goals and 29 assists for 49 points to go along with 28 penalty minutes.
While 32 Admiral alumni have competed in the Olympics, Butler will be come just the fourth to do so while playing with the team. The others include Simon Moser with Switzerland in 2014, Alexander Sulzer for Germany in 2010, and Peter Smrek with Slovakia in 2002.
In addition, Butler will look to join Admiral alumni Shea Weber (Team Canada 2010, 2014), Mikhail Shtalenkov (Unified Team 1992) and Buzz Schneider (Team USA 1980) to win Olympic Gold.
