AWOLNATION, Ben Folds, Eddie Money, Everclear, 38 Special and rising country star Chris Janson lead stellar 2018 band line up for southeast Michigan’s premier Labor Day festival

ROYAL OAK, Mich., Aug. 1, 2018 – There will be some exciting national and local star power at the 21ST Annual Ford Arts, Beats & Eats presented by Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, Aug. 31 – Sept. 3, in downtown Royal Oak. With more than 200 local and national musical acts, festival-goers will have an opportunity to enjoy every genre of music as well as a diverse line-up of family-friendly entertainment for southeast Michigan’s premier Labor Day festival.

 

“We are very proud of our reputation for providing widely-popular musicians and performers as well as new and emerging talent to the thousands of fans who join us throughout the holiday weekend,” said Jon Witz, Ford Arts, Beats & Eats festival producer. “This year’s entertainment line-up will be sure to provide a live music experience unlike any other.”

 

The Michigan Lottery National Stage will feature top-rated national performers who will deliver outstanding musical performances all weekend long. The acts include: Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum rock band, the Gin Blossoms (“Til I Hear It From You”); Grammy-nominated artist, Eddie Money (“Take Me Home Tonight”); the rock stylings of 38 Special (“Second Chance”); Everclear (“Wonderful”); the R&B sounds from the Spinners (“Then Came You”, “Rubber Band Man”); blues rock from Rival Sons (“Hollow Bones”);alternative rock from AWOLNATION (“Sail”); Matt Nathanson (“Come On Get Higher”); Ben Folds (“The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind”); rising country artist Dylan Schneider (“No Problem”); Chris Janson (“Fix A Drink”); a multi-media spectacular and one of the nation’s top tribute bands, Your Generation In Concert. The local musical acts that also will be featured include Lia K Castallo, Stone Clover, Ash Harris, Ezra, the 80s Detroit powerhouse hard rock band; and Priscilla Price.

 

In addition, some of the most talented and widely-recognized artists from across metro Detroit will be featured on eight additional music stages that will offer a variety of different music genres. The local stages include: Think Ford First Performance Pit Stage; Ford Alternative Rock Stage; Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Rock Stage; MetroPCS R&B/Jazz Stage; Flagstar Bank International Stage; Lagunitas/Shorts Brewing Company Country /

Americana Stage; Oakland Community College Cultural/Acoustic Stage; and the Detroit Institute of Arts Kids’ Stage. Top local talent featured this year includes: Blackman’s In Transit, Roots Vibrations, Raion Taiko Japenese Drumming, The Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club, Staffanie Christi’an, Nine & The Buffalo Riders, Kimball, Autumn Kings, Frijid Pink, Christian Vegh Band, Jill Jack Band, The Orbitsuns, Rye Whiskey, Theunderwüde, Carolyn Striho, Bird Into Bear, Alise King, Larry Lee & Back in the Day and New World Soul.

 

In the Detroit News Kids Zone, the Detroit Institute of Arts Kids’ Stage will feature a variety of interactive, educational and fun performances beginning at 12 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31 to Monday, Sept. 3. Families can watch great acts like Kevin Kammeraad & Friends. Kammeraad is an award-winning artist and performer, and inspires imagination through poetry, puppetry and music. Children also can dance along to performances from Raion Taiko with Godaiko Drummers, who have performed authentic Japanese drumming ensembles since 2005. Families can be transported to the other side of the world with narratives from Storyteller Judy Sima, enjoy some laughs with Storyteller Ivory D, or participate in the tales with Storyteller La’Ron Williams.

 

The Michigan Science Center also will host a collaborative “tour of science” using exciting, hands-on demonstrations. Children will experience the power of air pressure and can learn about defying the mysterious power gravity. These scientific presentations will excite and educate minds of all ages.
