From November 17 to March 5, downtown visitors can enjoy family favorites like ice skating, carriage rides and visits with Santa plus spectacular new opportunities to shop, eat and drink in Downtown Detroit like never before.

DETROIT - NOV 17, 2017 – Quicken Loans and the Downtown Detroit Partnership are thrilled to announce the 2017 season of Winter Magic programming in the Downtown Detroit Parks. The season kicks off on November 17 with the Annual Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony and inaugural Light Up Beacon Park holiday party and continues through March of 2018 with family favorite traditions and exciting new experiences.
New to Cadillac Square are stunning and festively decorated venues, the Cadillac Square Lodge and holiday markets. Inside the heated lodge tent, visitors can cozy up in an oversized leather chair while enjoying a local craft beer or bite to eat under rustic chandeliers. A clear roof and walls offers stunning views of Detroit’s Christmas Tree and city skyline - making a difficult spot to leave.
“The Downtown Detroit Partnership has done tree lighting for years and this season’s event kicks off Winter in Detroit, a host of fantastic programming and activations in public spaces that will last until March of 2018. Winter In Detroit is sure to bring excitement and life all to the parks in downtown," said Helen Davis Johnson, Vice President of Strategic Investments for Quicken Loans Community Investment Fund.
Just steps outside the Winter Lodge, shoppers will find over a dozen bavarian-style glass stalls with local makers and entrepreneurs selling everything from clothing and jewelry to yoga classes and toboggans.
Just a few blocks away, on State at Griswold, Capitol Park is completely transformed for the season. The gorgeous glass, holiday market stalls extend to the site of Michigan’s first capitol building with a mix of local small businesses offering their goods for sale, including tastings from the neighborhood’s newest Italian market, Eatori.
At the center of Capitol Park, Detroit’s newest Christmas farm lot will give holiday shoppers the chance to pick out the perfect Michigan grown tree, wreath or garlands for their home.

We are proud to partner with Quicken Loans to showcase Detroit’s parks and public spaces like they’ve never been seen before. We want to ensure Detroiters are proud to call this Downtown their home.”
Family favorite traditions like ice skating on The Rink, horse-drawn carriage rides, and visits with Santa return to Campus Martius Park. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of food and drink options, from fine dining at Parc, to hot cocoa in the Arctic Zone, or a new seasonal menu from the Winter Fountain - Detroit’s favorite shipping container bar and restaurant, back for the winter season.
Those who head south along The Woodward Esplanade from Campus Martius Park will travel through gorgeous willow arches adorned with holiday lights until they arrive at Detroit’s newly designed public space - Spirit of Detroit Plaza. Transformed into a winter wonderland, the plaza will offer fare from favorite local food trucks plus the chance to warm up in glass igloo-style domes.
WINTER MAGIC IN THE PARKS - AT A GLANCE
The Rink at Campus Martius Park
Located in the heart of Downtown, The Rink is the centerpiece of Detroit’s Gathering Place this winter season. The Rink is open every day including Christmas and New Year’s Eve, weather permitting. Prices: Skate rental is $4; Admission is $8 for adults and $7 for Seniors (59+) and Children (12 & under). Broomball leagues start January 8 through February 26.
Rinkside Dining & Drinks
Enjoy a fine dining experience at Parc that with 270-degree views of Campus Martius Park and Downtown Detroit. The menu includes traditional midwestern comfort foods and seasonally-inspired cocktails. Detroit’s favorite shipping container bar has transformed for the holiday season as Winter Fountain, where you can grab a quick cocktail or bite to eat and enjoy views of the city and Christmas tree with friends. For family-friendly concessions, stop into the Arctic Zone for hot chocolate and s’mores supplies.
Cadillac Square Lodge (NEW!)
New this year, the Cadillac Square Lodge offers a cozy, heated spot to enjoy Michigan beers and wine with stunning views of Detroit’s Christmas Tree and skyline. Exquisitely decorated with inviting oversized leather couches and rustic accents, this heated tent is sure to be a hub of activity this winter.
Cadillac Square and Capitol Park Markets (NEW!)
Shoppers have a festive place to support local small business owners in metro Detroit. From November 17 – January 7, stop by the Holiday Market in Cadillac Square and Capitol Park for a variety of items, from clothing and jewelry to yoga classes and toboggans. The Market is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Christmas Tree Farm at Capitol Park (NEW!)
Detroit’s newest Christmas tree lot opens November 17. Pick up a tree and decorations for the holidays and grab a bite to eat from Eatori Market, which will be located in the park throughout the season.
Downtown Street Eats (NEW!)
Food trucks are returning to Downtown Detroit for the winter season. Find a variety of food trucks in Cadillac Square, Spirit of Detroit, and The Woodward Esplanade until March 4 and in Beacon Park until January 28.
Horse-drawn Carriage Rides
Take a ride through Downtown Detroit’s beautifully decorated streets on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until December 30. Tickets are available for purchase at Cadillac Square - $10 per person and $40 for a private group ride. Carriage rides will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Visits with Santa
Stop by the atrium at One Campus Martius for a visit and photo with Santa until December 23.
